Kustom K9 Training

Weight Pulling (IWPA, all breeds and mix breeds)

This is the ultimate challenge in canine conditioning that is equal to human weight conditioning. Compete for working titles and the personal accomplishment. It is a unique sport that only works with a close relationship between handler and dog. Titles are given by International Weight Pulling Association that allows any breed and mix breeds to compete. UKC now also has weight pulling, but you must be a registered dog with UKC to compete. The titles are easier to achieve through UKC so the industry still considers IWPA as the ultimate in weight pulling titles. How well your dog does will depend on the bond with your dog, and his or her conditioning.

6-Week course fee is $300 for one handler and one dog. I will offer a reduction in course fee with a group of three handlers. Get your friends together to keep costs down. Training will last from one to two hours depending on the number of students, the weather, and the conditioning level of the dogs. You will be required to purchase a correctly fitted harness, which can run from $50 to $100 dollars depending on size. The harness must be a weight pulling harness and approved prior to class. You will also need to purchase a drag chain. Once you have initiated the class I will provide you with an equipment list.

You may discontinue training at any time and your course fee will be prorated and refunded, unless a group rate has been applied, then the refund will be decided on a case-by-case basis.

Lure Coursing (ASFA & AKC) or all breeds for fun

Does your dog love to chase anything that moves fast. Lure Coursing is a great sport for ALL dogs with that have great prey drive. It provides a primal outlet for your dog to hunt by sight. This is achieved by a pulley system set up with a line and a white plastic bag attached to it. It zips along the ground extremely fast, but is kept just ahead of the dog, which stimulates the dog to chase it as prey. The course can be as long as 900 yards for a trial or as short as 100 yards for training purposes.

Even though it is great fun for ALL dogs, it is actually considered a field trial sport for which a title can be obtained by a Sighthound breed as designated by The American Kennel Club "AKC", and the American Sighthound Field Association "ASFA". Getting a Lure Coursing title is not only fun, but is proof your dog has great hunting instincts. Your dog gets exercise, natural instinct stimulation, and you get the fun of watching your dog enjoy an activity. If you plan on breeding a Sighthound this title will help establish your breeds ability to do what it was bred to do.

Accepted breeds for official Sighthound titles:

AKC Sighthound breeds: Whippets, Basenjis, Greyhounds, Italian Greyhounds, Afghan Hounds, Borzois, Ibizan Hounds, Pharaoh Hounds, Irish Wolfhounds, Scottish Deerhound, Salukis, and Rhodesian Ridgebacks.
ASFA Sighthound breeds: Along with all the above they add the Azawakh, Chart Polski, Cirneco dell’Etna, Magyar Afar, Peruvian Inca Orchid, Portuguese Podengo, Galgo Espanol, Sloughi.

Six-Week Course. Each owner can bring up to two dogs. Course fee is $300. Meet once a week. Training will last from one hour to several depending on the number of dogs in the course, how many times you run your dog/based on your dog physical condition, and the weather. If the weather causes a class to be canceled, we extend it to the next week. There will be two trainers at each training session. We will attempt to work it out so your last session is part of an official practice with a Lure Coursing Club in the area, of which you will be a member of when you have completed your class. We need a minimum of four owners to hold the class. There is no limit to how many dogs you can run. There is a fee of $50 per dog after the first two dogs. Training will be on a Saturday or Sunday, early morning in the summer and late morning in the winter. Location of training will be in Suffolk.

Course refund policy: If you leave before the end of class or the start of class, and we have exceeded our minimum student number, you may receive a prorated refund. If you are not able to receive a refund, you may be allowed to take the remaining classes with the next six-week class if and when one is held. You will not be refunded for missed classes, but missed classes will not preclude you from completing the course. We will be as flexible as possible.

Sport Sledding

This is a rare opportunity to learn another extreme sport. This class will guide you through harness fitting, commands, pulling positions, and help you to bring out the work drive in your dogs. It is a great way to exercise your dogs, and have fun, or for competition. There are many new types of wheeled speed carts out now for you to choose from. However, for this class you just need to show up with you, your dog, and a sense for adventure for something wild.

Six-Week Class is $300 for one student, and one dog. We have buddy discounts, and group rates, so get your friends involved. There will be limited attendee slots and a class can run with only one student. Minimum age of dog is 6 months.

Refund policy. For all single paying students, you may receive a prorated refund of unused classes. However, if your rate is due to a group rate, we may reduce the amount of refund for unused classes to make up for your discounted price.
