ARE YOU THE PACK LEADER?
There is really not much you can get accomplished if your not the pack leader. Thinking of an obedience class?...........consider this.
If you are the leader obedience will follow naturally, and is so easy. If you are not the leader, you can attend as many obedience classes as want, but great behavior will not naturally follow. Most of the clients I get have had two group obedience courses before coming to me, but after my six hour program, they don't need them anymore.
We teach you to train and work with your dog. We teach your whole family and all your dogs. It is really all about the pack. No matter what training technique you choose, this one basic thing will forever be the beginning. We offer theory training, pack leadership work, specialized courses, even basic obedience. We make house and farm calls. I have expanded in 2010 to offer Equine and Canine work combined, and Livestock Guardian Dog work for all livestock. And a soon to come a equine and farm management program. Great if you need help getting ready for that first horse.
For search work call, we are on call 24.7. I am one of the few highly experienced scent trainers to offer this service to the public. No more unit hassles, let me get you trained first, on your time, then join the unit. Also offering service dog training. We train you to train your dog, helping you along the way. This is a much less expensive way to obtain a service dog. Your insurance company may even cover the training.
We are the K0 personal trainers of the dog world, and can help you with everything from nutrition, to what top spot to use, to what antibiotics not to use. Offering "Puppy Boot Camp", where puppies get the value of my formed pack, and 24/7 training. This is in my home, so no kennel for my boot campees. Great for puppies pulled from litters to early, and those puppies that just have very bad manners. Some young adult dogs might be accepted.
Offering "Puppy Parties". A 3-stage concept that allows puppies to learn to socialize safely in a controlled environment, meet adult dogs and respond correctly, and close with obedience. All along you learn why your puppies do certain behaviors. You also learn about basic drives and instinct at my puppy parties, and the value is unmistakable.
Hi Dog Lovers,
The picture that graces most of the pages on this site is my very loving pack of Rhodesian Ridgebacks. All have jobs to keep them mentally and physically healthy. Four are search and rescue dogs and the fifth is the City of Chesapeake "CERT", Community Emergency Response Team's Mascot, and Animals in Disaster advocate, as well as a Therapy Dog. It is important that if you are going to have a dog, to do something with them. It does not have to be complicated, but can be as simple as an everyday walk that we can help you turn into an adventure.
I have been training dogs for 45 years. However, that was my secondary career for many years with law enforcement being by primary job. I retired in 1999 as a Master Police Officer/Detective, and have been doing volunteer K9 Search and Rescue full time since then. I have trained five of my own dogs, and many other teams to certification. Because volunteer search work is an expensive endeavor, I formally created Kustom K9 Training to enable me to continue. ALL my profits go to support the training and support of my search and rescue dogs. This allows me to continue volunteering for law enforcement, but to also help others get into the field of search and rescue, which can be very politically charged. It also allows me to expand into providing lost pet search dogs, and for the training of service dogs both for mental and physical needs.
We offer unusual ways for you to really enjoy time with your dogs, and if you are a professional breeder we can help you get "working dog" titles on your dogs to enhance your breeding lines. This is just something not normally available to breeders. Besides search and rescue scent work, we can also assist with the development of a unit. Search and Rescue is an industry that is extremely hard to be successful in, and we can increase those chances dramatically.
I have current certification certificates on hand, and you are welcome to come interview me, and get scent work demonstrations. When you employee us to help you with your dog, you are also helping me to continue lifesaving volunteer work.

I will be taking part, as one of the selected trainers, in the training of psychiatric service dogs, with the long awaited study at the Walter Reed Hospital in DC. This study will hopefully show how valuable dogs are for all kinds of psychiatric problems especially PTSD. It has been approved but no date has been set yet.
