Equine Management Course
A lot of people take horse care for granted. There are many do's and don'ts that need to be adhered to, otherwise you can actually kill your horse. Even where you place your barn can effect your horses health. Fly control, heat reduction, protection from the cold, and much more. There are many really good books out there, but nothing beats hands on and a person you can ask questions to. Take my course and you will be much more comfortable and well armed to continue on your quest.
This course is designed individually for those:
- looking for a horse to purchase
- with their first horse realizing they do not have enough knowledge
- looking for property to own a horse on
- needing help to locate the barn, pens, or choosing a barn
- wanting to lease a horse
- wanting to better understand basic horse care and good animal husbandry
- needing to learn how to tack a horse, clean tack, groom a horse properly
- who need to better manage their pastures
The cost is based on my private fee at $60 per hour, or my six-hour program is $300 for a savings of an hour of training. If I come to you, there is a farm call fee of $5.00 per 15 minutes. I am just outside Great Bridge in Chesapeake so I can get to most places in 30 to 45 minutes, for a farm call fee of $20 to $30.
I am 53 and got my first horse at 12. Prior to that I worked at rental stables to save money to get my first horse. I showed speed events as a teenager, but in my adult years I galloped race horses, did some jockey work, worked strings of polo ponies, and bred Peruvian Pasos. I have owned and designed two farms and assisted with many others.
This is not a riding class, but a course so you can care for your horse and horse properly, and prepare you for riding.
